An Alternative Season Preview 2007

To be honest with you, I’ve found it very difficult to get motivated to write a gokimi.com preview for the F1 2007 season that starts this Friday.

Not because I’m not looking forward to what promises to be the closest and most exciting season for years. No of course I can’t wait!!! Neither is it because I’m not relishing the thought of watching Kimi go flat out to win that championship he deserves so much – you bet I am!!!

However I am concerned, that if you’re like me, you’ll already be fed up of the previews, predictions and opinions. So you won’t want to read another one…in which case there is no point in writing one!

All the regular F1 dedicated websites and magazines, as well as a selection of past and present F1 drivers, have been joined this week by the ‘great’ British press giving their two pennies worth.

Nothing unusual you might say, however this year the UK’s newspapers have generally been filled with tabloid style trashy attempts at guides to F1 and the forthcoming season – sadly even if they appear in the Guardian, so called respectable broadsheet paper!

I’m singling their guide out in particular, as I felt it belittled the sport and its fans with their endeavour to mix random facts and predictions with humour. Very disappointing. I’m sure even Jenson Button would regret putting his name to the ‘race guide’ section of it, if he actually read the final version. Maybe next year they could get someone who watches, understands and is passionate about F1 to write it?

Anyway enough of the whingeing - I’ll get back to my point…The press have spent the last fortnight in particular (since the last test session in Bahrain) predicting, second guessing and prophesising what they believe will happen in 2007, when actually nobody know what will happen!

So instead of looking into my crystal ball and revelling the 2007 World Drivers & Constructors Champions, I am going to share with you , quite simply, what I hope will happen.

• Kimi to shine, win the title in style (or just win it full stop!) and silence his critics be them doubters or sulkers (who’ve labelled him a traitor to McLaren)! Especially those who are currently ranking Massa above the Kimster.

• Lewis to settle in at McLaren straight away, have an awesome rookie season and put Alonso in his place both on track and on the championship points table.

• Heikki to have a brilliant first year, beat Fisi (a given surely?), cement his rightful place as a team number one and give those who didn’t rate his chances a real wake up call. Which leads me nicely onto…

• Renault – to continue to be a force in F1 and not fade away as so many believe they will with the loss of Alonso. Alonso was not what made them strong.

• Kubica to continue to impress, grow into a more consistent driver and future front-runner.

• Williams to have a come back strong enough to encourage Frank & Patrick to remain in the sport as a privateer team!

• For the gokimi.com team to at last be at a race that Kimi wins (selfish I know but important to me as a long term fan, who’s been to 16 GPs he’s raced in and never witnessed this!)

Perhaps you will agree with some of these. Of course the first and final of these are the most important one to me. I am sure you’ll understand why!

Thank you for reading and I hope you’ll stick with us through 2007 - continuing to support the Kimster in style!
